Inaugurated on October 2, 1913, the railway station is a valuable historical monument, built by Italian entrepreneur Carol Zane, who also built other emblematic buildings for the city: the Youth Theater, Precista Church, the Art Museum, the current Cucuteni Museum, and Casa Lalu. His mark can also be found at the county level, through buildings such as the Royal Palace in Bicaz, the Dochia Cabin in Ceahlău, or numerous churches in Neamț.
The station has witnessed moments that have shaped Romania's history. Here, on the night of June 21-22, 1941, Marshal Ion Antonescu gave his famous order: "Soldiers, I command you: cross the Prut River!" This marked the beginning of the campaign to liberate Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina.
And that's not all. Over the years, the station has also made it to the big screen. In 2006, the great director Francis Ford Coppola filmed scenes from the movie "Youth Without Youth," based on the novel by Mircea Eliade, here.
